Research

Fredrik's research is focused on new patterns of innovation emerging in response to digitization of manufactured products. It aims for an increased understanding of:

  • how the concept of modularity is changed, from hardware oriented and hierarchical to software/service oriented and polyarchical.
  • how product and industry boundaries are blurred, eventually threatening dominant designs of an industry.
  • how the concept of materiality is changed, when functionality, represented by software, can be moved, duplicated, changed or combined without "visiting" the physical realm.
