Project terminated
The BISON sub-project (2005-2007) is now over and this page will not be updated
any more. We managed to produce a useful amount of interesting papers during
the project and you'll find it all under the output heading. Cheers!
The BISON sub-project is part of a larger three-year research programme run by the Department of Informatics at Göteborg university and the Viktoria institute and funded by FAS; the Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research. In BISON we focus on information seeking behaviour amongst ordinary "business" people. Much research has been carried out on how librarians and other professional information seekers go about to find information but less is known about casual information users.
Since the late 90ies, a body of research on web searchers has started to emerge, mainly due to the work of Amanda Spink, Bernard Jansen and colleagues, and this has furthered our understanding of how ordinary people search for information and interact with search engines. The BISON sub-project is examining information seeking on intranets, i.e., what goes on inside the firewalls.
With our focus on Business-related Information Seeking inside Organisations, we believe the BISON team will be able to produce new knowledge from which both academia and industry will benefit.
