In Feb 2016, Viktoria Swedish ICT (Cooperative Systems) have received funding for two projects within the area of supporting time critical communication for automotive applications:

Eurostars: Real-time support for heterogenous networks in automotive applications (RETINA)

The RETINA project will start in April 2016. The project will develop a software tool set that provides time-critical, predictable and reliable communication for automotive applications in heterogeneous systems and networks, including wireless networks. The tool set will allow the user to design, develop and evaluate time-critical applications such as advanced safety systems and autonomous vehicles. This will put high requirements on both in-vehicle infrastructure, as well as vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure utilizing the next generation of mobile networks for Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS).

Project partners: Time Critical Networks AB, Alkit Communicaiton AB, Viktoria Swedish ICT, TNO (the Netherland), Scuola Superiore Sant’ Anna (Italy), Evidence Srl (Italy) and University of Lorraine (France)

FFI: Ethernet Communication for Real-time Automotive Applications (ECRA)

The ECRA project that started in February 2016 will consider recent advances in Ethernet technology and IEEE standardisation, with the aim to provide knowledge for development methods and tools to support advanced safety applications such as autonomous driving and camera monitoring applications. The project will focus on:

  • Reliable and robust communication for advanced safety functions in vehicles
  • Fault tolerance and redundancy issues in Ethernet networks
  • Time-critical and synchronisation problem in vehicle communication
  • Power over same cable as the data transmission, Power over Data Lines
  • Optical and electrical gigabit links
  • Efficient implementation of Ethernet software

Project partners: Volvo Car Group, Time Critical Networks AB, Viktoria Swedish ICT, Pelagicore AB and ArcCore AB
