Visit at Metro Rio together with the Swedish Minister for Enterprise

Viktoria Swedish ICT and the Secretariat of Transports in the State of Rio de Janeiro organized a meeting on 9th May to discuss the development of the public transport system in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro. The Swedish Minister for Enterprise Annie Lööf participated in the meeting, which were held at the Metrô Rio Operations Center in Rio de Janeiro, together with representatives for the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications and Sweden's innovation agency VINNOVA.

The public transport system in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro is currently being improved in order to meet the needs of an increasing number of everyday travelers as well as visitors during events like the Olympic Games 2016.

The Minister for Enterprise Annie Lööf visited Brazil from 6th to 10th May in order to develop the innovative and industrial cooperation between Sweden and Brazil. A visit to the Metrô Rio Operations Center in Rio de Janeiro was part of the minister's program for 9th May. The state secretary Magnus Wallerå and representatives representatives for the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications and Sweden's innovation agency VINNOVA were also present at the visit.

Miguel Dau, Chief Operating Officer at Metrô Rio, presented the operations center and informed about ongoing investments in the metropolitan railway system. Julio Lopes, Secretary of Transports in the State of Rio de Janeiro, talked about challenges and opportunities for public transport of Rio de Janeiro in the coming years and the importance of the 2016 Olympic Games. Martin Gustavsson, Senior Researcher at Viktoria Swedish ICT, talked about innovation experiences from the Swedish public transport system.

The meeting at Metrô Rio Operations Center was arranged by Waldir Peres at the Secretariat of Transports in the State of Rio de Janeiro, José Luiz Barbosa, and Martin Gustavsson at Viktoria Swedish ICT.

On 9th and 10th May VINNOVA and FINEP, one of Brazil's largest funders of research and innovation, arranged an Innovation Forum in Rio de Janeiro. In conjunction with the forum, a new cooperation agreement between the two parties was signed. See VINNOVA news article for more information.
