ProjectELISE - Electric Aviation in Sweden

ELISE - Electric Aviation in Sweden

Project Description

ELISE project creates a plan for the development and utilization of electric aircraft in Sweden. It is a collaboration between Chalmers, RISE Viktoria, QRTECH and the Civil Aviation Administration together with the aviation industry and other actors.

Aviation accounts for 2% of global CO2 emissions, and the proportion is expected to increase to 15-27% by 2050. In future, electric flights will be able to accommodate short-haul transports and contribute to achieve the global sustainability goals in Agenda 2030 by reducing emissions and noise, developing sustainable and innovative industries, and enhancing urban-rural interaction.

Sweden has a strong aerospace industry and a transport infrastructure that relies on air travel. The project joins the aerospace industry and technology companies with authorities, health services, police, fire brigades, urban planners, energy companies and transport companies to evaluate how electric aircraft technology best can serve Sweden.

ELISE- A project within Vinnova’s Challenge-driven innovation program

Challenge-driven innovation is an initiative that aims to solve social challenges that require broad cooperation to overcome. The solutions developed under the programme must make a clear contribution to one or more of the 17 Sustainable development goals laid out in the UN’s 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. Projects operating within the programme can tackle everything from climate change and health challenges to problems of inequality and the uneven distribution of resources.
