ITS-support for combined transport solutions

Emerging ubiquitous technologies such as GPS (Global Positioning Systems) and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) hold the promise of closing some of the information gaps in the supply chain, especially in transport and logistics. “ITS-support for combined transport solutions” is a research project addressing the issue of how transports can be made more efficient, flexible, and secure by help of advanced information technology support. The chief objective of this project is to develop an information infrastructure that supports innovative services for dynamic information management in the context of multimodal transports. This project will be conducted as a collaborative effort where vendors of IT-systems collaborate with researchers and transport industry representatives. Expected results from this project are important for at least two reasons. First, well-functioning services for transparent information management have the potential to drive competitive advantage of Swedish transport firms in a local, regional, and global perspective. Second, integrating core competence belonging to different actor networks, the cross-collaborative nature of this project is likely to render increased business innovation in the Swedish IT industry, thus facilitating the development of tomorrow’s integrated transport solutions.
